COPPER MOUNTAIN, Colo. – April 5, 2017 — The tradition of deep snow, plentiful sunshine and action-packed events continues at Copper Mountain with the annual Sunsation celebration, April 15 – 16. This year’s musical acts feature Robert Randolph and the Family Band and Mix Master Mike of the Beastie Boys. Both shows are free to attend.
On Saturday, April 15 at 10:30 a.m., Red Bull Slopesoakers kicks off the weekend at the base of the 22-foot Superpipe. This pond-skim-meets-slopestyle rail jam features competitors in their wackiest costumes. Participants will take home the crown in categories such as Best Costume, Best Crash and Best Trick. At 3:45 p.m., Mix Master Mike of the Beastie Boys takes the stage in Burning Stones Plaza, Center Village. Named the “World’s Greatest DJ” by USA Today, Mix Master Mike is a Grammy award winner and three-time consecutive winner of the DMC World title. He is set to tour with Metallica beginning May 2017.
On Sunday, April 16 at 8 a.m., families are invited to a breakfast with the popular storybook character Rainbow Fish followed by a reading from Miss Colorado. Beginning at 10:15 a.m., kids and kids at heart will search for 65,000 eggs across Center Village and on-mountain for the World’s Largest Easter Egg Hunt. Lucky egg hunters can receive prizes such as 2017/18 season passes and Copper gift cards. From 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., the High Fives Foundation returns for its 2nd annual Shred-A-Thon. Participants will lap the American Eagle chairlift to raise funds for injured mountain action sports athletes. All are welcome and invited to wear throwback gear including one-piece snow suits and straight skis. Prior to the event, participants are encouraged to seek donations. At 3:45 p.m., Sunsation’s headliner Robert Randolph and the Family Band performs on the Main Stage in Burning Stones Plaza, Center Village. During the early 2000s, Robert Randolph took his renowned steel guitar, vocal and songwriting talents to grow the Family Band into a prominent American funk and soul ensemble. Robert Randolph has been named one of Rolling Stone’s Top 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.
