Every year the Summit Foundation partners with local ski resorts through the Ski Medallion program to fund several of the foundation’s programs and operational costs. Copper Mountain along with our Summit and Eagle County neighbors, Arapahoe Basin, Breckenridge, Keystone, Vail and Beaver Creek, partner on a yearly basis to grant transferable passes to persons and businesses that contribute to the program.
The Ski Medallion Program began in 1984 and annually generates $1.2 million to the Summit Foundation that can be funneled back into the community through the foundation’s scholarship programs, nonprofit grants and special initiatives. Each local resort allocates a certain number of passes for the Ski Medallion program, which sells out each season. The program is a significant fundraising tool for the Summit Foundation and is considered a one-of-a-kind type offering allowing community members and businesses to ski and ride at any of Summit and Eagle County resorts throughout the winter season.
The Summit Foundation has previously partnered with Copper Mountain through the resort’s Play It Forward fund to help distribute much needed support to local community organizations that are providing essential services in the region during this time of need and beyond. The Summit Foundation also received a Play It Forward donation to fund its Sophomore Scholarship program, which provides Summit County students money for their higher education costs beyond freshman year.
